Big South Fork to celebrate Juneteenth with fee discounts

BANDY CREEK  |  The Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area will observe the Juneteenth holiday on Wednesday, June 19, with 50% off fees at Bandy Creek Pool and backcountry camping permits, as well as 50% off one night of camping at Alum Ford Campground on the Kentucky end of the national park.

Bandy Creek Pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 19. The pool is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and federal holiday through Labor Day. Daily admission is $3, or $2 for children 12 and under. A season pass is available for $25.

Alum Ford Campground is situated along the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail near the Alum Ford Boat Ramp. There are six sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis for $15 per night. All gravel tent pads have a picnic table, fire ring, food storage locker and nearby trash receptacle, along with recycle bins and vault toilets. The campground is going into the National Park Service’s reservation system beginning July 1, 2024. At that point, reservations can be made at recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777.
