National Trails Day in Big South Fork rescheduled for June 22

BANDY CREEK  |  Due to the severe thunderstorms that caused significant damage in the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area on May 26, National Trails Day has been rescheduled to June 22.

The organized work day was originally scheduled for June 1, but the Big South Fork said Wednesday that it is being rescheduled for the safety of both staff and volunteers.

Severe thunderstorms rocked the region on Memorial Day weekend, leaving substantial tree damage in their wake. The hardest-hit areas of the BSF were those along Divide Road on the western side of the park. Adjacent Pickett State Park was also hit hard.

On June 22, volunteers will focus their efforts on the Sheltowee Trace Trail and Proctor Ridge Horse Trail.

If you’re interested in volunteering, contact Effie Houston at effie_houston@nps.gov or (423) 569-9778.
